Goal
Connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
Connecting via Wi-Fi
The Intelligent Edge Micro (Micro) has a built-in Wi-Fi antenna and can connect via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz).
Note: When installed inside a metal box, it may become difficult to connect to Wi-Fi. In this case, please consider other connection methods.
Specifications of Connectable Wi-Fi
The following Wi-Fi can be connected to. Please check in advance whether the Wi-Fi you plan to use meets the specifications below.
| Frequency | 2.4GHz |
|---|---|
| Modulation | IEEE 802.11b/g/n |
| Stealth SSID | Connectable (for use in Japan, set the country setting to "Japan") |
| Authentication | Supports WPA2/PSK (AES, TKIP), WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2 Enterprise (certificate). WPA2/PSK + Captive portal is not supported. WPA3 may not be supported depending on the environment. |
| Communication method | HTTPS (TLS 1.2) WebSocket |
| Number of connections | 1 |
| Communication direction | Requests from the device only (the server never connects to the device) |
| Proxy | Configurable (HTTP or HTTPS) |
| Connection destination domains | obniz.io, *.obniz.io, obniz.com, *.obniz.com (there may be multiple for *) |
| Wi-Fi settings that can be stored | Up to 5 |
Check the LED After Power-On
After power-on, the white LED next to "ONLINE" indicates the connection status.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Off | No power supply (check the power and wiring) |
| Blinking | Connection in progress (if it continues for a long time, such as 30 seconds or more, check the network and settings) |
| Continuously lit | Connection to the Internet and the cloud service obniz Now is complete |
Troubleshooting from the LED State (Wi-Fi)
| Condition (LED) | Possible Cause | How to Respond |
|---|---|---|
| The white LED stays off | ・No power supplied / insufficient voltage (outside 5–32 V) ・Power connector or USB not connected or loose |
Check the power, wiring, and USB, and try a different power source or a different cable. Re-secure the connector with appropriate force (about a light tightening). |
| The white LED stays blinking (does not transition to continuously lit) | ・Mismatched SSID/password (uppercase/lowercase, full-width/half-width characters) ・Stealth SSID set so that it cannot be scanned ・Unsupported encryption/authentication (WPA2/PSK + Captive portal, etc.) ・2.4 GHz disabled, channel interference / weak signal, MAC filter enabled |
Re-enter the SSID/password; for a stealth SSID, register it via manual configuration. Enable 2.4 GHz and change the channel (1/6/11 recommended). Change the encryption/authentication to a supported method such as WPA2/PSK (AES). Register the Micro as allowed in the router's MAC filter. |
| The white LED stays blinking (does not transition to continuously lit) | ・DHCP not working / static IP mismatch (incorrect IP/GW/DNS) ・DNS cannot be resolved, 443/TCP blocked by firewall/proxy ・Insufficient signal quality (frequent packet loss) |
Check that DHCP is working / for a static IP, review the IP/GW/DNS. Allow 443/TCP to obniz.io / obniz.com (and *.obniz.io, *.obniz.com). When using a proxy, review the method (HTTP/HTTPS) / host / authentication. Move closer to the router, avoid obstacles, and change the channel to improve it. |
