Initial Setup

🎯
Goal of This Chapter
Get the Intelligent Edge Micro ready to use by going through unboxing, the various registrations, the various connections, securing the device, and connecting to the Internet.
[Flow] Unboxing > Register via QR > Connect the antenna (for LTE) > Power and Internet connection
> (for wired) Connect to devices > Install and secure > Use and configure Wi-Fi/Ethernet

Unboxing

Take the Intelligent Edge Micro unit (hereafter abbreviated as Micro) out of the box and place it on a stable location, such as a desk.

After this, connect in the following order.

  1. Register via QR
  2. (For LTE) Connect the antenna
  3. Connect to power and confirm the Internet connection
  4. (If necessary) Connect to the target device
  5. Secure the Micro at the installation location

Register via QR

If you have a contract for obniz Now, registration is already complete at the time of shipment, so this step is unnecessary.
Proceed to the next step, "■ (For LTE) Connect the antenna."

The following items are included in the Micro's outer box.

・obnizID: a unique identification number assigned to each device
XXXX-XXXX (X: half-width digit)
・QR code required for device registration: a QR code that differs for each device

Scan the QR code on the obniz Now device registration screen to register it.

🚨
・Do not share an unregistered QR code with others.
Once it has been registered, the same QR code can no longer be used for registration.
If you register one by mistake, please contact obniz with the obnizID of the device in question.

Connect the Antenna (for LTE)

Fit the enclosed antenna onto the "LTE-M/NB-IoT" connector and secure it by turning it.

The antenna can be switched as an option at the time of delivery, but in the case of a rod antenna it looks as follows.

Once online, you can use various services over the Internet.
If you are connecting wirelessly to sensors and the like, there is nothing else to do on the unit. This completes the process.

(For Wired) Connection to Devices

To connect to other devices via UART or similar, refer to the page for the connection method corresponding to each standard.

The Micro has a ZH8 connector at the bottom of the unit, which can be used as digital and analog terminals such as GPIO/AD/UART.

Install and Secure

It is recommended to either place the Micro unit as is or secure it with screws.

Use and Configure Wi-Fi/Ethernet

By switching the settings, you can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet instead of LTE.

For details, see the settings page.

■ Details on Power and Internet Connection

Power is connected via the USB power connector at the bottom of the Micro. Supply power with the dedicated Type-C cable.

Alternatively, 5V can be supplied externally via the ZH8 connector.

As soon as power is turned on, the white LED next to "ONLINE" begins to blink. This LED indicates the Internet connection status, and a continuously lit state means a successful connection to the Internet and the obniz cloud.

If the blinking state continues, the antenna may not be connected properly, or the device may be out of range.

For details on the specific lit states and each state, refer to the obnizOS reference below. This is common not only to LTE but also to Wi-Fi/Ethernet.

Preparation Checklist

When you have confirmed the following items, the preparation for this chapter is complete.

⚠️

  • What if the gateway's own Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) login screen does not appear automatically?
    Go to http://192.168.254.1/.
→ For details, see "How to Display the Login Screen."
  • What if you configured it with a different Wi-Fi than the one at the location where you want to use it?
It may not work correctly. After resetting, reconfigure it with the name and password of the Wi-Fi that can actually be used at the installation location.
→ For details, see "How to Reset."
  • What if you cannot register successfully with the QR code?
You can register by photographing the QR code with a smartphone and displaying that image on the PC screen.
→ For details, see "QR Registration Method Using a PC and a Smartphone."
  • What if the lamp color differs from the description?
The display may differ depending on the situation.
→ For details, see "LED Status List."
